PA is the 5th Leading Destination State in the United States

Economic Impact of Pennsylvania’s Travel and Tourism Industry report demonstrate the vital importance of the travel industry to Pennsylvania’s economy and summarizes visitor spending, employment and earnings derived from traveler spending, the contribution of the travel industry to the Pennsylvania’s gross state product, and tax receipts derived from traveler spending.
The Pennsylvania Tourism Office and Tourism Economics worked together to produce the economic impact of travel and tourism report starting with the 2009 calendar year data.  Below is a summary of the 2009 results:

• Total Visitor Spending--$31.1 billion
• Total Economic Impact--$32.9 billion
• Total Jobs Supported--433,000
• State & Local Tax Revenues--$3.4 billion

The 2009 Annual Travel Provile done by Longwoods International showed the following for the Laurel Highlands:

• 2.6 million overnight trips
• 4.7 million day trips  
• 82% Travel By Car
• 54% Travel 100-299 Miles
• 36% Travel with Children (3.4 Average Party)
• Average stay was 3.1 days
